How Funding Will Help
Funds raised through moose adoptions will fund the work of the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) in Ontario’s Frontenac Arch; an ancient granite bridge with rugged, rocky slopes, thick green forests, and beautiful wetland valleys. It is also home to an incredible array of biodiversity, including over 200 bird species, numerous plants, reptiles, insects, amphibians, and mammals. The Frontenac Arch is also home to several species-at-risk, such as the cerulean warbler, and its protection is crucial in order to mitigate some of the threats that these species face, such as habitat fragmentation and pressure from development.

More About the Project

In
2024, NCC’s Coordinator of Conservation Biology Megan Quinn is focused on
habitat restoration in the Frontenac Arch – primarily through the removal of
common buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica),
an aggressive invasive species that alters the soil chemistry around it so that
native trees and shrubs can’t grow.

About Moose

Moose are the largest members of the deer family, standing about six feet tall. Male moose have antlers that can also span up to six feet. They shed their antlers each winter to save energy, and grow them back each spring when it’s time to compete for a mate. Moose live near bodies of water in forests all over Canada, and they communicate with each other by bellowing.
